What workloads are appropriate for RAID 0?+

RAID 0 is appropriate for performance-focused workloads where data loss is acceptable or where the data is protected by other means. Common appropriate use cases include: scratch space and temporary build/render output, video editing temporary files (the project files are backed up separately), high-speed capture buffers (live streaming, broadcast), gaming installations (data can be redownloaded), scientific computing temporary results, and database log/temp partitions in scenarios where the primary database is on protected storage. RAID 0 is inappropriate for primary file storage, irreplaceable data, system boot drives without a robust backup strategy, and any workload that cannot tolerate the n-times-single-disk failure probability.

Can RAID 0 be recovered after disk failure?+

RAID 0 recovery is the most challenging of any standard RAID level because there is no redundancy to fall back on. If the failed disk is recoverable (controller failure, partial damage that responds to professional services), data recovery is potentially possible by reading all member disks and reassembling the stripes; this requires knowing the original stripe size, disk order, and any RAID metadata.
